Score one for Marbury

Posted in Dave Zangaro with tags , , , on February 26, 2009 by z889sports

Stephon Marbury’s rocky 5 year run in the Big Apple is officially over.  Marbury and the Knicks agreed to a 20 million dollar buyout ending the 12 year veteran’s time in New York.  Marbury has been the second highest paid player this year, despite not playing.  The Knicks decided that Starbury would just be a distraction, which in the end is what he was.  The questions followed the Knicks wherever they went, they could not escape Marbury.  In the end the Knicks have spent millions of dollars on Marbury and have nothing to show for it.  They have let his trade value diminish as he sat at first on the bench and then at his home.  The only time we saw Marbury this season was at Lakers games chumming it up with Hollywood elite.  He is in shape.  He has been working out and is well rested, his last game was last January.  So now the 32 year old will most likely clear waivers and join the defending champion Boston Celtics.  So the Knicks will spent the rest of there season without distraction at the bottom of the East, while Boston with one added distraction may be the favorites to win it all.  If good guys finish last, it begs the question, where will Marbury end up?

And the award goes to….

With the Academy Awards coming up this weekend, I can’t help but to think about movies.  I mean, it’s not like it’s all that hard either.  Football is over, unless you’re one of those people who follow the mock drafts before Spring arrives, Baseball is just beginning but wake me up for the Phightins ring ceremony, unless your a Lakers, Cavs, or Celtics fan, basketball isn’t much fun, and hockey, although always fun to watch (in my opinion) is in that lag-time between All-Star break and Playoffs.  Hey, there’s always Premiership soccer for all you hooligans out there…

…but movies have been on my mind this week, and being the sports guy I am, I started to think of my (notice I said MY, as in my personal opinion) top 10 sports movies.  Although, I personally think The Dark Knight is hands-down the top movie of 2008, here are my top 10 sports movies of all time:

10. Major League

9. Bull Durham

8. Hoosiers

7. Rudy (Despite my hatred for Notre Dame)

6. The Natural

5. Remember The Titans

4. Field of Dreams

3. Caddyshack

2.  Rocky

1. Miracle

…and receiving and honorable mention: Bad News Bears, The Longest Yard, Jerry Maguire, Mighty Ducks, Slap Shot, Dodgeball, and BASEketball.

Again, this is purely my opinion…let me know what you think…and it may not be a bad idea to remember this list…who knows if I’ll use it to give away a prize or two on the show at some point.

A Super Super Bowl

Posted in Dave Zangaro with tags , on February 3, 2009 by z889sports

Even the heroics of Kurt Warner and Larry Fitzgerald weren’t enough to overcome the marvelous play of Ben Roethlisberger and Santonio Holmes.  The Super Bowl was a great game that lived up to the hype unlike many Super Bowls of the past.  This game was filled with amazing play after amazing play and stupid penalty after stupid penalty.  In a game with 18 penalties for 162 yards the outcome was actually decided by great plays by great players.   Read more »
